Tuesday's 'Where Is It In East Carmel?'
While it's true most of us have not stood above this spot and had the chance to learn of the Liberty Tree, this location has had some recent publicity. Over the past month Jeff Worrell wrote a great piece in the Current in Carmel about this plaque's significance and location in the east part of our city. Here's the hint: It's in a public place and one that only recently was available to all of us...somewhere along the Parkway. OK....where is it in east Carmel?

A Chill In The Air
A cold mist, an open swing and a hint of color in the distant tree are the tell tale signs that the season is fading. Gray Road Park, which has been busy even with the start of school was more than a little quiet today. We had our run of the swings, slides and hanging bars with no one to disturb us except the surprised deer near the baseball field. We do appreciate the the CPD officer ignoring the grown ups utilizing the play ground equipment on a cool Fall day.

Nice Work Carmel Clay Parks!
If you haven't seen it the new entry for Founder's Park has been placed on Hazel Dell north of 116th street and it looks fantastic. The park appears close to finished although the scheduled finalization wasn't supposed to be until November. This park has unofficially won the award for being the longest construction project for a park in the Book of Guiness. To be fair...in the economic times we live in, just getting these types of projects completed and available to the community is positive. Founder's Park has walking trails, access to a small lake and loads of playground equipment for the kids.

Almost Time......
Standing ready for Summer like many of east Carmel's water facilities is the splash zone at the Lawrence W. Inlow park on east 131st. Carmel Clay Parks has been working hard to have this facility and all of the parks east of Keystone ready for the Memorial Day weekend. From this splash zone to the neighborhood pools, Summer can't come soon enough for Carmel residents who've not yet totally forgotten the three inches of ice they chisled during the early part of February. For now, hope and warmer weather spring eternal. Inlow Park also has a great pavillion with grilling areas, picnic tables, restrooms, walking parks and great playground areas.

18-17-16.......
Hard to believe there are only 16 more schools days left on the Carmel Clay Schools calender. Considering Forbes Magazine recently named CCS as one of the top districts in America, it's no doubt been a productive year. With a little luck, these middle schoolers getting on the bus Thursday morning on Main Street east of Keystone Parkway won't need heavy coats much longer!

All Signs Point To The Future
Congratulations to Mayor Brainard on his primary victory Tuesday in Carmel. With no candidate opposing him in the Fall he's assured reelection. Congrats are also in order to Carmel city council elect members Kevin 'Woody' Rider, Ron Carter, Sue Finkam, Rick Sharp, Luci Snyder, Carol Schleif and Eric Sidensticker. Try not to miss those witty political marketing ads....at least for a few months!

Founder's Park Update (116th/Hazel Dell N.E.)
Another great addition to the Carmel Clay Parks system will be Founder's Park which is slated for completion in November of 2011. This park will have a full playground, walking and hiking trails, a covered pavillion, rest rooms and a pond when finished. These photos were taken on May 1, 2011. The entrance in photo 2 will be similar to that of the Monon Center with a large roundabout for access.
