Sometimes we get relaxed and don't worry about the things that our neighbors in the county to the south have to deal with on a daily basis. Last Friday night at about 4:00 (still light) a 12 year old Westfield girl was attacked at about this point on on east 126th street. An unknown white male in his late 20's to early 30's approached her, grabbed and tried to choke her. She stated that she fought him off by scratching him then ran to Mohawk Trails Elementary and called the police. This is a place I've run or biked past hundreds of times and never thought twice and yet it was nearly the scene of a tragedy. Hopefully it's a wake up call for all of us....to keep a strong eye out for each other so that when these things happen we can stop them before they escalate. Let's hope this was an isolated incident and one that parents and kids alike in east Carmel can put behind them...even while we remain vigilant for each other.
